The Girl in the Red Cap

Writing Rambles #1

I follow a fantastic writing prompt account on Instagram, @writingchallenges that used to post a new prompt every week. I like to have fun with them and not think too incredibly hard. This account helped me to let go and just write!

I enjoyed these so much, I thought, why not just put them up here in the hideout? Some are short and simple, while other are a little more complicated, it just depends on what the prompt inspires. This is the first one I ever wrote back in February 17, 2019!

If you want to join in, give yourself a break, and just write for fun, before you read my story, write what the prompt inspires for you and post it in the Fireside Room. I'd love to read your stories!

Prompt: He was just about to pay for his coffee… Hope you enjoy!

The Girl in the Red Cap He was just about to pay for his coffee when he saw that kid again, the same one from the three days before. Her eyes, as green as a summer forest, sparkled with something like mischief beneath an oversized, red cap, but always, just as before, they held such a strange glance underneath that seemed to just be clawing to get out. The girl ducked behind a woman he assumed to be mom, and he tried to shake her out of his head, but then he caught another glimpse of the back of her cap as she left the café, alone and barefoot. Her feet had always been bare, so the man wondered why he took so much notice of it this time. But then again, none of their strange meetings had ever been indoors. The barista’s voice was in his ear, concerned and confused. “Sir, is everything okay?”

He blinked at her for one dazed moment.

Her brow scrunched. “Sir?” Setting down an uncounted amount of cash, too much for a medium black coffee, he turned to the next stranger in line, handed him the drink, and shot out into the street, only to find the girl had altogether disappeared.

Thanks for reading!

Your Captain,

Ellie
